Teacher
Meet Claire Shaun Hello, I’m Claire Shaun, a passionate K–12 English educator with 10 years of professional teaching experience. Over the years, I have had the privilege of helping students become more confident readers, stronger writers, critical thinkers, and effective communicators. I hold both a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in English Language, earned from universities in the United States and Canada. My academic background, combined with a decade of practical teaching experience, has given me a broad understanding of English Language Arts and the diverse learning needs of students across different educational systems. As an educator with LearnersGain, I am committed to making English engaging, accessible, practical, and rewarding for learners from elementary school through high school. ## My Academic Qualifications My academic and professional background includes: * Bachelor’s Degree in English Language * Master’s Degree in English Language * University education completed in both the United States and Canada * 10 years of professional K–12 English teaching experience * Extensive experience in literacy, writing, grammar, comprehension, and communication instruction * Experience teaching elementary, middle-school, and high-school learners * Strong knowledge of curriculum-based and student-centered instruction * Experience teaching in both classroom and online learning environments My combination of advanced academic training and practical classroom experience allows me to bring both depth and clarity to every lesson I teach. My 10 Years of K–12 Teaching Experience Over the past 10 years, I have worked with learners at many different stages of their academic development. I have supported younger students as they build essential reading, vocabulary, grammar, and writing foundations, while also helping older students develop more advanced skills in literary analysis, research, argument development, essay writing, and academic communication. One of the most important lessons I have learned as a teacher is that no two students learn in exactly the same way. I take time to understand individual learning needs and adapt my teaching so that difficult concepts become easier to understand, apply, and remember. My areas of expertise include: * K–12 English Language Arts * Reading comprehension * Literacy development * Grammar and sentence structure * Punctuation * Vocabulary development * Creative writing * Narrative writing * Informational and explanatory writing * Opinion and persuasive writing * Essay writing * Academic composition * Poetry analysis * Literary analysis * Figurative language and literary devices * Research and source evaluation * Critical thinking * Textual evidence and analysis * Speaking and communication skills * High-school English preparation * Academic writing and study skills My Professional Experience and Achievements Throughout my teaching career, I have had the opportunity to help learners strengthen their English and literacy skills in many different ways. Some of the areas I am especially proud of include: * Teaching English successfully across multiple K–12 grade levels * Helping students develop stronger reading comprehension and analytical skills * Supporting learners in improving grammar, vocabulary, punctuation, and sentence construction * Guiding students from basic writing skills to structured paragraphs, essays, and advanced academic writing * Helping students express their ideas more clearly and confidently * Teaching students how to analyse stories, novels, poetry, drama, and informational texts * Creating lessons that make challenging English concepts easier to understand * Helping students use textual evidence to support interpretations and arguments * Preparing learners for increasingly advanced English requirements as they progress through school * Using differentiated teaching strategies to support different learning abilities and styles * Integrating technology and digital resources into English instruction * Encouraging independent reading, curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking * Helping students develop communication skills that support success both inside and outside the classroom ## My International Academic Perspective Studying English Language at universities in both the United States and Canada has given me a valuable international perspective on education. My academic background has strengthened my understanding of language, literature, communication, writing, and literacy development while exposing me to different approaches to teaching and learning. I believe this perspective is especially valuable at LearnersGain, where students may come from different educational backgrounds and require lessons that are inclusive, adaptable, clear, and academically rigorous. ## My Teaching Approach I believe learning English should be about much more than memorizing grammar rules or completing assignments. My goal is to help students understand how language works and give them the confidence to use it effectively in school, in future studies, and in everyday life. My teaching style is structured, encouraging, interactive, and learner-focused. I use: * Clear explanations * Practical and relatable examples * Guided practice * Independent learning activities * Reading and writing exercises * Critical-thinking questions * Age-appropriate teaching strategies * Constructive feedback I enjoy breaking difficult concepts into manageable steps so students can build their skills gradually and confidently. ## How I Support Elementary Learners For younger learners, I focus on building strong foundations in: * Reading * Vocabulary * Grammar * Sentence construction * Reading comprehension * Storytelling * Creative writing * Communication I work to make English lessons engaging and approachable so that children can develop a positive relationship with reading and writing from an early age. I want young learners to see English not as something difficult or intimidating, but as a tool for discovering new ideas, telling stories, and expressing themselves. How I Support Middle-School Learners For middle-school students, I place greater emphasis on: * Deeper reading comprehension * Paragraph development * Essay organization * Grammar mastery * Vocabulary development * Literary devices * Research skills * Critical thinking * Evidence-based responses * Creative and academic writing At this stage, I encourage students to move beyond simply understanding what a text says. I help them begin asking deeper questions about why an author made certain choices, how ideas are communicated, and what evidence supports a particular interpretation. How I Support High-School Learners For high-school students, I focus on more advanced English skills, including: * Literary analysis * Advanced reading comprehension * Essay writing * Research * Argument development * Academic vocabulary * Critical analysis * Evidence-based writing * Persuasive communication * Interpretation of complex texts * Preparation for post-secondary studies My goal is to help high-school learners develop the independence, academic confidence, and communication skills they will need for university, college, and future professional environments. Inspiring Confident Learners I strongly believe that students learn best when they feel supported, respected, and confident enough to participate. I aim to create a positive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, exploring new ideas, and continuing to improve. Rather than simply giving students answers, I encourage them to think independently, explain their reasoning, support their ideas with evidence, and communicate clearly. For me, success in English is not only about achieving a good grade. It is about helping learners become confident thinkers, readers, writers, and communicators. My Role at LearnersGain At LearnersGain, I bring together my academic qualifications and 10 years of K–12 English teaching experience to create engaging and meaningful learning experiences. My Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in English Language, earned through universities in the United States and Canada, combined with my practical teaching background, allow me to bring academic knowledge, international perspective, and real classroom experience to my students. Whether a learner is developing basic reading skills, strengthening grammar, exploring creative writing, analyzing literature, or preparing an advanced high-school essay, I am committed to helping that learner progress with confidence. A Little More About Me Teaching English is more than a profession for me. It is an opportunity to help students discover the power of language and communication. After 10 years of teaching K–12 English, I remain passionate about helping every learner become a stronger reader, a clearer writer, a deeper thinker, and a more confident communicator. I am proud to be part of the LearnersGain educator community and to contribute to a learning environment where students can develop the skills they need for academic success and lifelong learning. I look forward to learning with you and helping you reach your English goals.
