Teacher
Meet Alex Hampton Hello, I’m Alex Hampton, a dedicated K–12 Mathematics educator with classroom experience helping students build confidence, strengthen problem-solving skills, and develop a deeper understanding of mathematics. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics and have experience teaching learners across elementary, middle-school, and high-school levels. As an educator with LearnersGain, my goal is to make mathematics clear, practical, engaging, and easier to understand. I believe every student can improve in mathematics when concepts are explained clearly, broken into manageable steps, and connected to real-life situations. My Academic Qualifications My academic and professional background includes: * Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics * K–12 classroom teaching experience * Experience teaching elementary, middle-school, and high-school mathematics * Strong knowledge of mathematical concepts, reasoning, and problem-solving * Experience with curriculum-based instruction * Lesson planning and learning assessment * Student-centered and differentiated instruction * Experience supporting learners with different abilities and learning needs My academic training in mathematics gives me a strong foundation in mathematical reasoning, while my classroom experience helps me translate complex ideas into lessons students can understand and apply. My K–12 Mathematics Teaching Experience I have experience working with students at different stages of their K–12 mathematics journey. For younger learners, I focus on helping students develop strong foundations in number sense, operations, patterns, measurement, geometry, and everyday problem-solving. At the middle-school level, I help students develop stronger skills in fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios, algebra, geometry, statistics, and mathematical reasoning. For high-school learners, I support students as they move into more advanced mathematical concepts such as algebra, functions, equations, trigonometry, probability, statistics, and other areas of secondary mathematics. I understand that many students find mathematics challenging, so I make it a priority to explain concepts patiently and clearly. My Areas of Professional Expertise My areas of mathematics expertise include: * K–12 Mathematics * Number Sense and Operations * Arithmetic * Fractions, Decimals, and Percentages * Ratios and Proportions * Algebra * Equations and Inequalities * Functions * Geometry * Measurement * Trigonometry * Statistics and Probability * Mathematical Reasoning * Word Problems * Problem-Solving Strategies * Data Interpretation * Graphs and Coordinate Mathematics * High-School Mathematics Preparation * Mathematical Communication My Core Skills My key teaching skills include: * K–12 Mathematics Instruction * Mathematical Problem Solving * Algebra and Functions * Geometry and Measurement * Numerical Reasoning * Curriculum and Lesson Planning * Differentiated Student-Centered Instruction My Teaching Approach I believe mathematics becomes much easier when students understand the reasoning behind a process instead of simply memorizing formulas. My teaching approach focuses on helping learners understand: * What they are solving * Why a mathematical method works * How to apply the method * How to check whether an answer makes sense * How mathematics connects to everyday life I use clear explanations, worked examples, guided practice, visual representations, real-world applications, and independent exercises to help students develop both understanding and confidence. When students make mistakes, I see those mistakes as opportunities to identify misunderstandings and strengthen learning. My goal is not simply to help students find the correct answer. I want them to understand how they arrived at that answer. Supporting Elementary Learners For elementary students, I focus on developing strong mathematical foundations. My lessons may include: * Counting and number sense * Addition and subtraction * Multiplication and division * Place value * Fractions * Shapes and geometry * Measurement * Patterns * Time and money * Basic data interpretation * Problem solving At this stage, I aim to make mathematics visual, practical, and enjoyable. Building confidence early is especially important because a strong foundation prepares learners for more advanced mathematics later. Supporting Middle-School Learners For middle-school students, I help learners strengthen both computational and reasoning skills. I focus on areas such as: * Fractions and decimals * Percentages * Ratios and proportions * Integers * Expressions * Equations * Introductory algebra * Geometry * Measurement * Statistics * Probability * Graphs * Multi-step word problems I encourage students to explain their reasoning and recognize patterns rather than relying only on memorized procedures. Supporting High-School Learners For high-school students, I focus on helping learners understand increasingly advanced mathematical concepts. These may include: * Algebra * Linear equations * Quadratic relationships * Functions * Systems of equations * Geometry * Trigonometry * Probability * Statistics * Graph interpretation * Mathematical modelling * Advanced problem solving At this level, students need more than computational ability. They need to analyze information, select appropriate strategies, justify their reasoning, and communicate mathematical ideas clearly. My goal is to help students develop these skills while preparing them for examinations, post-secondary studies, and future careers where mathematics may be important. Building Mathematics Confidence One of the most important parts of my work is helping students overcome the belief that they are simply "not good at math." Mathematics is a skill that develops through understanding, practice, patience, and consistent effort. I aim to create a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and working through challenging problems. I encourage learners to approach difficult questions step by step rather than becoming discouraged by the complexity of the entire problem. As their understanding improves, their confidence usually grows with it. Making Mathematics Practical I enjoy showing students that mathematics is not limited to textbooks and examinations. We use mathematics when we: * Manage money * Measure distances * Compare prices * Read graphs * Plan journeys * Calculate time * Build and design things * Interpret data * Use technology * Make everyday decisions Connecting mathematical concepts to real situations helps students understand why the subject matters and how the skills they are developing can be used beyond the classroom. My Role at LearnersGain At LearnersGain, I bring my mathematics education and K–12 classroom experience together to help students develop stronger mathematical understanding and confidence. I am committed to creating lessons that are structured, learner-friendly, practical, and academically meaningful. Whether a student is learning basic number operations, struggling with fractions, beginning algebra, interpreting graphs, solving equations, or working through advanced high-school mathematics, I aim to make each concept easier to understand. I want my students to become more than learners who can follow a mathematical formula. I want them to become independent problem solvers who can reason, analyze, and confidently apply what they have learned. A Little More About Me Teaching mathematics gives me the opportunity to help students turn confusion into understanding. I particularly enjoy the moment when a learner who has been struggling with a concept finally understands how it works. My mission is to help every student develop stronger mathematical foundations, better problem-solving abilities, and the confidence to approach challenging questions without fear. I am proud to be part of the LearnersGain educator community and look forward to helping students discover that mathematics can be understandable, useful, and even enjoyable.
